Bali Pre-IDC Preparation List

IDC Bali internship preparations

Has it been a while since you’ve been in the classroom? When I did my IDC, it had been over a year since I completed my Divemaster training. If you’re in the same boat, try these 5 things to get the gears rolling and prepare yourself before your IDC begins.

  1. Check out your old course materials: Since you will be teaching the courses you have already taken, skim back through your old books and touch up on things you might not remember. You should be able to complete all knowledge reviews quite easily.
  2. Touch up on skills: Instructor demonstrations need to be on point. If it has been a while since you completed your dive master course, you might need to refresh your skill circuit. You can search for professional skill circuits on YouTube and practice in the mirror before you arrive. If you have access to a pool, practice with a buddy or even video yourself to check for errors.
  3. Browse your PADI Encyclopedia: Instructors need to know the “hows” and “whys” of all things diving, so your Encyclopedia will become your best friend during your IDC. Make sure you are familiar with it before hand and read up on some topics you might not feel comfortable with. During your IDC, spend a little time each night reviewing what you went over in class.
  4. Talk to Instructors: All PADI Instructors have gone through this process before! Use your friends and coworkers to help ease your mind. Ask them which parts of the IE were difficult for them and what they did to prepare that was helpful.
  5. Relax: Chances are you are becoming an Instructor because you love to dive. Remember to relax, you are already equipped with a majority of the qualifications and skills needed to get through your IDC, and your Course Director will help you with the rest.

If you try these 5 things before your IDC starts, your mind will be much more at ease when you start. Blue Season Bali’s 28 day IDC includes plenty of prep days where you can brush up on both your dive skills and your theory.
