Is the PADI Divemaster course right for you ?

So you are hooked on diving and trying to decide whether the PADI Divemaster course is right for you? Here are a few things that you can consider when thinking about it as a next option in your diving progression.

How long will it take?

It depends, but here at Blue Season Bali we believe that experience and diving a lot is key in your PADI Divemaster Course, so we do not recommend anything less than a month. It will give you ample time to study the theory related to the course, but also to improve your diving skills, as well as to get familiar with the day-to-day life of a dive shop. Most of our Divemaster interns also talk about the “click” or the “wow moment” that they get during their training, when suddenly all previous learning experiences, dive skills and the love of diving come together at once and you suddenly feel that you have reached a new level of comfort, enjoyment and ability.

Why is it beneficial?

As said above, it is very likely that you will come out of the PADI Divemaster Course as a way better diver than when you started. There is also a lot to be said about the confidence you will gain in the water and your ability to be in charge of a dive plan or other divers. Finally, for all of our Divemaster interns, the social factor and all the great people they get to meet during their Divemaster internship is a huge contributing factor to how much they enjoy the experience.

What if I am not willing to work as a Divemaster?

That is a very personal decision, but you don’t need to be willing to work as a dive professional straight away to do your PADI Divemaster Course. I personally became a Divemaster quite early in my diving career, and didn’t work in the dive industry for years after it. When I decided to go full time into diving, I already had quite a lot of dives and experience thanks to my Divemaster internship, as well as a good understanding of how the daily life could be.

Of course, if your aim is to work in the dive industry, then the PADI Divemaster Course is the first step you need to take. It will give you a good insight on what the job entails when you are doing your course as an internship, but also will help you gain very valuable skills.
