5 top things employers look for when hiring Dive Instructors!
We are often asked by our Instructor candidates how to get a job after training, here are the 5 top things that an employer will be wanting to see
- Professional appearance and attitude
It is a good idea to attach a photo to your CV if you are not meeting a prospective employer face to face.
The photo should show you looking professional. Don’t be tempted to try and gain attention with funny poses or party pictures, you are looking for a job not a party companion!
- Work experience
There are a lot Dive Instructors looking for work, all will be trained to teach of course, so you need to make sure that you highlight the extra skills that you can bring to the job. As an employer the first things that I look for are Language skills and Sales & Marketing experience. We all need to promote our products and services to maintain and grow our businesses so these skills are highly valuable
- Diving experience
Show your prospective employer that you have a wide range of experience with total number of dives and locations. Mention specific interests and unusual experiences that show you are a bit different from the competition!
- Teaching experience
We need to see the number and range of courses that you have taught and of course the specialties that you are qualified to teach, list them all!
Add some brief comments about particular sales and teaching successes or favorite specialties
- Linked-in
Take time to build a good linked-in profile. This site is created and used by professionals and is a great way to showcase yourself as a serious professional. A full profile on linked in with attention to detail shows that you know how to market yourself and will be able to transfer those skills to promoting the business of your new employer
Good luck!
